KY History Privacy Policy

Effective date: September 11, 2026

This Privacy Policy describes how KY History (the iOS/iPadOS app published by Shannon Snowden) handles information. KY History is an independent personal project and is not an official app of the Commonwealth of Kentucky.

Summary

KY History is built to help you explore Kentucky history on a map. It does not create user accounts, does not sell personal information, and does not use advertising or third-party analytics SDKs in the current version. Location is used on your device to show nearby sites; that location is not uploaded to a Shannon Snowden server.

Information the app uses

Location

If you grant location permission, KY History uses your device location (via Apple’s location services) to:

  • Center and update the map while you browse or drive
  • Optionally support nearby-site features described in the app’s permission prompts

Location processing happens on your device. Shannon Snowden does not operate a backend that receives a continuous location feed from the app.

You can revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → KY History.

Map and place content

Historic sites, highway markers, and related details are loaded from data bundled with the app (and any updates delivered through App Store / TestFlight builds). That content is historical/reference information, not personal data about you.

The app may open links to third-party services you choose to use, such as:

  • Apple Maps
  • Google Maps / Google Search (including image search)
  • Public archives or websites for historic photos and newspapers

Those services are governed by their own privacy policies. KY History does not control what those services collect after you leave the app.

Diagnostics and Apple platforms

Apple may collect standard App Store, TestFlight, and device diagnostics according to your Apple ID and device settings. Shannon Snowden only sees what Apple provides in App Store Connect (for example crash reports you opt into sharing), not a private analytics profile built inside the app.

What we do not do (current version)

  • We do not require you to create an account or profile inside KY History
  • We do not sell your personal information
  • We do not show in-app ads
  • We do not include third-party advertising or analytics SDKs in the current app build

Future features (for example a companion website with optional login or synced preferences) will update this policy before those features collect additional personal information.

Children’s privacy

KY History is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13.

Data retention

Because the current app does not operate a Shannon Snowden account database for KY History users, there is no server-side KY History user profile for us to retain or delete. Content and preferences stored only on your device remain until you delete the app or clear them on the device.

Your choices

  • Deny or revoke location permission in iOS Settings
  • Delete the app to remove on-device app data
  • Contact us (below) with privacy questions

Changes

We may update this Privacy Policy when the app’s practices change. The effective date at the top will be revised when that happens. Continued use of KY History after an update means you acknowledge the revised policy.
